Samsung today announced that it has shipped one million of its Android 2.1-powered Galaxy S devices in the U.S. market. Samsung Mobile began shipping the Galaxy S portfolio2 on July 15, which are currently available with AT&T and T-Mobile. Galaxy S devices will also be available with Sprint on August 31 and will be available with Verizon Wireless, U.S. Cellular and Cellular South this fall.
The Samsung Galaxy S is known under one too many names in the US. AT&T customers know it as the Samsung i897 Captivate, T-Mobile calls it the Samsung Vibrant, while Sprint is about to sell it as the QWERTY-fied Samsung Epic 4G. As for Verizon, it’s launching its Galaxy S version as the Samsung Fascinate in September.
Save for the different names (and the Epic 4G side-slide QWERTY keyboard) under the hood they are all the same (almost). All of them feature 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens on the front, 5MP autofocus cameras with 720p HD video at 30fps on the back and 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and Android 2.1 in-between.
